Posterous Getting Shut Down On April 30 To Focus 100% On Twitter

Around a year ago, micro-blogging site Twitter acquired Posterous, a simple blogging platform, to expand its business more further. Posterous let users “to share photos and connect with your social networks” very easily. But now, Posterous has announced via its company blog that it will be shutting down its services on April 30 to shift all of it’s attention to Twitter.

Posterous

Posterous co-founder Sachin Agarwal said as its (Posterous) focus will be “100% on Twitter”, so the site is shutting down completely. Now Posterous will give customers more than two months of time to “back up” their content. Agarwal has recommended users to utilize the content import tools offered by WordPress and Squarespace to create duplicate blogs. If you have a Posterous blog, you can save your content by going to posterous.com/#backup, logging into the service and clicking “Request Backup” next to the name of your space. When the backup is ready to be downloaded, the user will receive an email with instructions how to save all of their blog’s content.

Techcrunch has reported that Posterous co-founder Garry Tan has already started a new site called Posthaven, which he says “will never shut down” and users will be able to pay $5 a month to use Posthaven to keep their links intact.

Posthaven

Tan said, I’m teaming up with another cofounder of Posterous, Brett Gibson, and we are taking a pledge to keeping the URLs online forever. It’s $5 a month and will have all of the ease of use and power of Posterous. It’s just the two of us and we’re coding it in our bedrooms right now.”
