Facebook Is Ready Against Attacks, Anonymous Threats Is Fake

We reported earlier that a video by someone who claims to be a part of the hacktivist fraternity Anonymous claimed that they would attack Facebook on January 28th. Turns out the claim was a fake as the official Twitter account of Anonymous clearly debunked it and stated that it had no plans to take down Facebook. However, on the end of Facebook, the social network claimed that it was absolutely ready for any and all attacks by anyone, even Anonymous, and that the data of the users will not be compromised at any cost.

Anonymous clearly has no plans to launch an attack on the social network. If we look at the past jobs by Anonymous, we see that these hacktivists have tried to attack any such sites which may affect the public adversely at large. So the threat to Facebook was already flimsy and now this tweet from the official Anonymous Twitter accounts entirely debunks it.

On the other hand, Facebook was quick in responding to the alleged threats and said that it was fully prepared to counter any attempts at attacking it’s servers. The official statement read,

“We expect Anonymous just like we expect any other attack on any other day. Due to our size, we face the same threats as seen everywhere else on the Web, but we have developed partnerships, backend systems, and protocols to confront the full range of security challenges we face. Facebook has always been committed to protecting our users’ information, and we will continue to innovate and work tirelessly to defend this data.”

At this point, it is unclear as to who actually issued the threat. Anonymous is a loosely bound group with members all across the globe and there’s no definite hierarchy.
