Hackers Deface Google Palestine Site

Since Google’s localized versions normally garner the highest amounts of traffic, they are the primary targets of different hackers. The localized Palestinian site of Google was recently defaced by hackers who were apparently ‘trying’ to put out a political message.

Google Palestine

For long, Google had ‘Palestinian Territories’ written on its Palestinian site, but the search engine recently changed that to ‘Palestine.’ The change made a lot of headlines around the tech world and denoted that Google was formally accepting the status of the Palestinian state.

However, much to our confusion, the hackers who have defaced Google’s Palestinian site, displayed the following message, “uncle google we say hi from palestine to remember you that the country in google map not called israel. its called Palestine.”

We can safely assume, despite the abysmal communication skills, that the hackers were trying to tell Google to make changes to the Google Maps that still have Israel stamped all over the region whereas Palestine is non-existent on the map.

Interestingly, Google says that the domain was not exactly hacked and that it ran into other issues. According to an official statement from the company, “Some users visiting google.ps have been getting redirected to a different website; Google services for the google.ps domain were not hacked. We’re in contact with the organization responsible for managing this domain name so we can help resolve the problem.”
