Head Of Homeland Security Doesn’t Use Email At All

In the digital age that we live in, email has become flag-bearer of a whole new revolution, paving the way for better communications through internet. It has replaced paper in almost all official communication. But, some unorthodox people can still be found in this digital era. One such example is the United States Secretary of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano. Recently, she has revealed that she doesn’t use email at all.

This is rather intriguing, given the key position that she holds. Napolitano, and her department, is actively involved in thwarting any cyber-attacks that U.S. may face and has been trying to devise measures to help businesses tackle cyber attacks from outside of the States.

However, the fact that Napolitano herself doesn’t use email is fairly shocking. Speaking at a recent conference about cyber security, she said that she doesn’t use email “For a whole host of reasons. So, I don’t have any of my own accounts and that, you know, I’m very secure. Some would call me a Luddite but you know. But that’s my own personal choice and I’m very unique in that regard I suspect.”

Such a revelation would not have been so surprising if it had came from another state official. But Napolitano is literally at the forefront of the cyber warfare, and it would make some people uncomfortable that she doesn’t trust the digital realm for communications. If her own trust is that shaky towards the security of data sent online, how can she assure businesses and common users that her department can thwart any possible cyber attacks.
