Last.fm May Have Been Targeted In Yet Another Password Leak

The social media is still reeling from the after-effects of the hacking and leaking of some 6.5 million LinkedIn passwords, an incident that has really left users shaky regarding the security of social networks. And while the news is still fresh, here is yet another similar bit of news. This time, the well-known internet radio Last.fm has been targeted.


For now, the company in unsure as to whether or not the leak has really happened. In our experience, such vague statements are normally meant to prepare the users for an eventual revelation that the leak has actually occurred. Naturally, this ‘precautionary step’ is complimented by Last.fm suggesting its users to change their passwords immediately.

The official post from Last.fm reads, “We are currently investigating the leak of some Last.fm user passwords. This follows recent password leaks on other sites, as well as information posted online. As a precautionary measure, we’re asking all our users to change their passwords immediately.”

It is unclear that this hack has been pulled off by the same Russian hacker who had claimed to have hacked LinkedIn passwords or if it is the work of some other hacker. Nonetheless, to remain on the safe side, you definitely should change your password if you have an online account with Last.fm.
