YouTube Celebrates 7th Birthday, 72 Hours Of Video Uploaded Each Minute

One of the most wildly successful portions of the social media online is YouTube, the video site that has exploded into popularity and mass usage. And the number of users uploading content to the site, and the amount of content, is increasing each year. YouTube celebrated its 7th birthday on May 20th and announced that users are now uploading whopping 72 hours of video each minute!

This is a significant leap for the website which reported last year that its users were uploading 48 hours of content each minute. Just a few months ago back in January, YouTube also reported that 4 billion videos were being viewed on the website each day! Naturally, that number must have significantly increased by now.

In its official blog post commemorating the birthday, the folks at YouTube wrote, “Like many 7-year-olds around the world, we’re growing up so fast. In other words, every single minute you now upload three whole days worth of video instead of two. That’s 61 Royal Wedding Ceremonies, 841 Bad Romances, and 1,194 Nyan Cats.”

Currently, it is estimated that YouTube has a user base of 800 million who watch some 300 billion hours on YouTube each month! That’s quite close to the population of Facebook, the largest social network online. YouTube has also posted a video on the occasion which has been shared below.
