Last month, Microsoft’s Lumia started replacing the Nokia brand. Few days ago, the software giant hinted that it would bring the very first non-Nokia Lumia smartphone. And finally, the wait is over. Microsoft has unveiled Lumia 535, which is touted to be the very first non-Nokia smartphone.
In September, Microsoft indicated that it is moving away from Nokia brand name completely when the Nokia UK website started redirecting users to its ‘new home’, the Microsoft Mobile Devices page. It was then expected that Nokia websites of other regions will soon follow. Now it seems that the transition has started with ‘Nokia France’ first, as announced on its Facebook page.
It seems like the end of Nokia Corporation is near. Why? Because Nokia users in the United Kingdom (UK) are now being redirected from nokia.com to Microsoft’s ‘new home’, the Microsoft Mobile Devices page. And it is being expected that Nokia websites of other regions will soon follow.
After buying the smartphone division of Nokia, Microsoft hinted that it would make Android smartphones. Last year, Microsoft launched Nokia X, and this year, the company has introduced Nokia X2, the successor of Nokia X smartphone. The most buzzing news is that Microsoft has made Opera the default browser for all Nokia X devices.
Microsoft acquired Nokia’s devices and services businesses a while ago. While the deal is still to met regulatory approval in Asia, reports have it that the division, previously called Nokia Oyj, will soon be rebranded as Microsoft Mobile Oy.
It has been only days since Nokia first unveiled its new Android line-up including the Nokia X handset. A user at the XDA-Developers forum was quick to hack the handset and run Google apps directly on it.
Microsoft recently acquired Nokia and with it, former Nokia CEO Stephen Elop joined the company. Now, Elop has been made in charge of the Devices and Studious Division at Microsoft.
