Lost and Found, And Then Lost Again: Atlantis Is Still A Mystery For Google Earth

The mystery of Atlantis has been interesting to all of us since Plato wrote about it the first time. Now like many other places, it is one of the most discussed fascination of both scientists and history-lovers alike. Google mapped the ocean floor three years ago with Google Ocean and due to this endeavor came forth one of the most wonderful of all discoveries by Google and that was to locate and unearth the lost city of Atlantis.

But this new find did not stay for long as the updated underwater maps have been used as reported by ubergizmo. These maps were formed with the help of the data provided by Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and other such research institutes. According a Scripps geophysicist, David Sandwell.

“The original version of Google Ocean was a newly developed prototype map that had high resolution but also contained thousands of blunders related to the original archived ship data. UCSD undergraduate students spent the past three years identifying and correcting the blunders.”

So everything comes down to the fact that the grid that appeared to be Atlantis was actually the result of overlapping of datasets. But with the continued efforts, it might be unearthed again.
