Intel started shipping out its brand-new Haswell line-up of processors only recently. The line-up offers far better performance, together with smarter power consumption and improved battery life. Sony has packed the new chip in its Vaio Pro ultrabooks, claiming that these machines can offer up to 25 hours of battery life!
In the past, HP was mildly criticized when the company dished out notebooks which bore some similarities in design to Apple’s Mac notebooks. However, it would seem that HP paid little heed to such criticism as the company unveiled new Envy notebooks which seems to be MacBook look-alike.
The world’s largest hard drive company Seagate is getting serious about Solid State Drives (SSDs). Yesterday, the company unveiled the Seagate 600 SSD, its first-ever consumer-to-enterprise solid state drive that will be sold along with Cupertino, Calif.-based company’s hard disks and hybrid hard drives, or storage devices that combine both speedy flash memory chips and high-capacity hard disks.
Yesterday, Acer held a press event in New York City and unveiled a number of new products, including Aspire R7 Windows 8 laptop-tablet convertible whose display can be moved in any side and a $800 Windows 8 Ultrabook convertible Aspire P3 which will be coming to consumers shortly. At that event Acer also unveiled Iconia A1, the company’s first full-featured 7.9-inch tablet targeted at modern day explorers, adventurers, digital freaks and mobile executives requiring an all-day mobile companion.
In a world where smartphones and tablets are increasingly being used for all kinds of tasks, laptops still seem fairly bulky in comparison. However, hardware vendors have been trimming down the size of laptops. Inhon has now unveiled a new laptop which the company is touting as the world’s thinnest and lightest laptop.
There are many Windows 8 thin and high-end laptops, but very few laptops pack both of these. Recently, Japanese electronics company Toshiba has announced a new laptop named KIRAbook, which is the very first device under the new brand for consumers, called KIRA. KIRAbook is a thin as well as a high-end laptop. It comes with 13.3-inch display along with a very high-resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels and is a tough competitor to Apple’s Retina display equipped MacBook Pro.
At the first-quarter earnings conference call, Intel executives said that Intel is planning to bring Bay Trail chip which is a complete redesign of the Atom micro architecture, and would drive down the price of future Windows 8 touch devices including laptops and tablets to as low as $200.
