A Former NASA Engineer Plans To Build Space Elevator To The Moon

Kickstarter is a funding platform for creative and innovative projects. It’s a great platform for all to bring their projects and ambitions to life. Project creators inspire people to open their wallets by offering products, benefits, and fun experiences. Now, a new and an interesting project named “Space Elevator Science – Climb to the Sky – A Tethered Tower” is seeking fund through Kickstarter. Michael Laine, a former NASA engineer has claimed, a Space Elevator which can take robots and humans to the surface of the Moon “can be built today” as we already do have that technology to materialize it.

Space Elevator

Michael Laine, who was a former NASA engineer, is the founder and CEO of LiftPort and the president of the LiftPort Group. This California firm LiftPort wants to take its science fiction dream to the moon. The company believes that the concept of space elevator is possible to make true using today’s technology. Laine believes that due to the lack of atmosphere and lower gravity, a Lunar space elevator would be much easier to construct than one on Earth. Therefore, Michael Laine (you can also say Liftport) has launched an online campaign on Aug 23, 2012 to fund the first part of its project to build a lunar space lift. The lunar space lift will assist a robot to climb 1.2 miles into the sky.

LiftPort Group as well as Michael Laine needs only $8,000 to materialize the experimental project. But the good news is that as of this writing, 592 backers have already donated $20,194 for the project. Based on the fund rising, the project has different stretch goals. Funding for the project ends on September 13, 2012.
