Due to zero gravity, it’s really tough to do things normally in space as we do on Earth. And to let us know how complex it is to get habituated or do things in space, NASA has released a video where how 43-year-old astronaut Karen Nyberg manages to wash her hair at International Space Station (ISS).
It’s difficult to deal with water in space. But at the same time, it’s really amazing. Nyberg’s hair-washing regimen involves a bag of warm water, a bottle of no-rinse shampoo, a towel and a comb. She squirts water onto her scalp and works it up to the ends of her hair. Then she applies the rinseless shampoo to her scalp, and works it from roots to tips with a comb.
Interestingly, that shower water doesn’t just flow down the drain. Rather Nyberg explains when her hair starts drying, the water in her hair gets evaporated into the air and the ISS’s air conditioning system collects that moisture and recycle it into drinking water. See the video for yourself.
