Taiwanese website Digitimes reported that Amazon may launch a Kindle with color E-Ink display in the second half of this year. According to the report, Amazon’s new color E-Ink based ebook readers will be built with multi-touch capacitive panels instead of infrared touch panels used in the previous mono-color e-book readers.
Amazon has so far been very successful in marketing black and white Kindle readers from its inception. The success of Kindle Fire tablets with color LCD displays showed that there is a demand for color e-readers. But, LCD displays doesn’t provide the comfort of reading E-Ink displays could ensure. Amazon is said to recognize this issue and planned to capitalize on this through the launch of an color E-Ink based Kindle reader. According to Digitimes, Amazon is expected to ship six million e-book readers in 2012. However, it is not specified if the number refers to total predicted sales of e-readers, including the old devices, or just the yet be launched ones.
Digitimes reported on Thursday that Amazon has began to place parts orders for the new Kindle. The site also claims TPK Holding company will supply the multi-touch panels.
