Over the years, Bump has been an immensely popular app, used to share data simply by bumping two smartphones together. Google has now acquired the company that created the said app, namely Bump Technologies. Thankfully, the app will not be abandoned after the acquisition.

Bump surged to grab the position of being among the most downloaded mobile apps quiet a while ago. However, despite this wild success and a significant sum of funds raised by the company recently, Bump Technologies has now been acquired by Google.

According to David Lieb of Bump Technologies, “We strive to create experiences that feel like magic, enabled behind the scene with innovations in math, data processing, and algorithms. So we couldn’t be more thrilled to join Google.”

If you are a user of the Bump app, you would be glad to know that although the entire team has been acquired by Google, together with the company itself, the app will continue to work normally. In other words, Google doesn’t want the app to be abandoned yet.

It isn’t clear what the terms of the deal between Google and Bump are. However, we are pretty sure that it has raked pretty heavily, given that Bump raised some $20 million in an investor huddle recently. Some sources close to the deal have hinted that the final deal was somewhere in the neighborhood of $35 million. It’s hard to say if this is a win or a loss for Bump. Although the company has sealed a decent deal, it has capitulated in the face of adversities.
