BlackBerry manufacturer company Research In Motion (RIM) is mulling over splitting its business into two units. The company is interested to separate its handset manufacturing division from its messaging network. Last month, RIM said that they had hired JP Morgan and RBC Capital to examine its strategic options. After getting the results of the study, RIM could separate its handset division into an independent listed company, even sell it to another firm.
Potential buyers of the handset division comprises Amazon and Facebook. RIM is also considering to sell its messaging network, or collaboration with Apple and Google to increase revenue. RIM is also reported to consider selling significant stake to Microsoft to maintain the firms integrity.
