Verizon Sues Net Neutrality Rules Of FCC

Verizon Communications is taking another stab at overturning the Federal Communication Commission’s Net Neutrality rules and filed an appeal in the Court of Appeals for the D.C. circuit. The FCC’s net neutrality rules, approved by the commission in December, are illegal because they would modify Verizon’s existing spectrum licenses without the company’s approval and Verizon’s lawsuit attacks the FCC from a different perspective with the carrier wanting the rules invalidated. Verizon’s lawsuit was widely expected and Verizon tried in March to sue to block the FCC rules, but the same appeals court said it couldn’t because the agency hadn’t published the rules in the Federal Register…………………

Verizon Communications on Friday (Sept. 30) filed an appeal in the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit of the Federal Communications Commission‘s December 2010 Report and Order (FCC 10-201) adopting so-called net neutrality rules. The following statement should be attributed to Michael E. Glover, Verizon senior vice president and deputy general counsel: “Verizon is fully committed to an open Internet. We are deeply concerned by the FCC’s assertion of broad authority to impose potentially sweeping and unneeded regulations on broadband networks and services and on the Internet itself. We believe this assertion of authority is inconsistent with the statute and will create uncertainty for the communications industry, innovators, investors and consumers.” Verizon Communications Inc., headquartered in New York, is a global leader in delivering broadband and other wireless and wireline communications services to consumer, business, government and wholesale customers.
