Walmart Testing iPhone Scan-And-Go App For Mobile Checkout

Employees and friends of Wal-Mart are now testing a new mobile checkout system using a Scan-And-Go app for iPhone. Mobile checkout system is not a new thing, but Wal-Mart’s system is significantly different compared to existing systems. If the system achieves success, then one day it could replace the cashiers.

Existing mobile checkout systems let consumers scan product by using their smartphone, but they can’t checkout automatically in a store without passing through the payment counters. The Scan-And-Go app for iPhone will transfer all scanned product to a self-checkout kiosk. That means, customers can pick up products at store and pay through their mobile without waiting in the queue at checkout counters.

Wal-Mart said that it is working on a mobile payment network including other retailers. If successful, the new checkout system could rival current systems like Google Wallet.
