Peter Thiel May Pour In $150 Million For Airbnb

Airbnb is a profitable startup which provides vacation rental services. The startup has been on the verge of a round of fund-raising, and now, PayPal’s co-founder, Peter Thiel, is expected to invest a whopping $150 million in the venture.

Airbnb has already had a few rounds of fund raising. The startup has launched back in 2008, and performed exceptionally well to date, raising handsome sums of funding during each round. During the round B funding, for instance, it was able to gather $112 million.

However, during the upcoming round, Airbnb is hoping to notch up the bar, and is expected to take its overall valuation into billions. According to Wall Street Journal, “The talks represent a new milestone for Airbnb, a high-profile startup and one of the young technology companies that investors widely considered [to be] on deck to go public in the next year or so.”

Thiel has been an active venture capitalist, and has invested heavily in a number of high-profile technology ventures. He was one of the early investors in Facebook. If WSJ’s report, that Thiel has intents of investing $150 million in Airbnb, turns out to be true, it would be a jackpot for the startup.

Airbnb has also launched an insurance policy of its own for the owners who rent their spaces through its online service. The new feature was introduced after a recent public relations nightmare for the company where the party who rented a space through Airbnb wrecked havoc on it.
