Terrafugia Announced TF-X, The World’s First Flying Car

For a long time, Massachusetts aerospace firm Terrafugia had been planning to build flying car. The good news is lately the company has announced its first flying car named TF-X. The TF-X will be available in two years and it will need no runway to take off.

The TF-X will be a four-seated car. This car will have plug-in hybrid system under the hood. The TF-X will be able to take off in two ways. One, the car will start driving on the ground like a normal car and then it will take off like a plane. That means the car needs no runway like real life planes that need a runway to take off or land.

The car can take off from static condition like a helicopter. Taking off from static condition is called Vertical Takeoff and Landing (VTOL). The TF-X would be able to fly at a speed of more than 200 mph using the technology similar to that used in the Marines’ V-22 Osprey.

Terrafugia has mentioned that TF-X would be able to fly itself to a degree that would not require the owner to be a licensed pilot, as the driver would cover the basic elements while a computer controls the rest.

Terrafugia has discussed about the vehicle with the national aviation authority of the United States of America, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the aviation authority. All of them were satisfied with the car’s technology.

The TF-X flying car will cost $279,000 each, and will be available in two years.
