Texas Will Soon Have The First Bookless Public Library Named BiblioTech

In recent years, book-reading has undergone radical changes with the advent of e-readers and e-books. Texas has decided to embrace this transition with open hands. The state will soon have its very own, entirely bookless, public library which will host computers and gadgets for the readers to access e-books. The library is being called ‘BiblioTech’.

The library will become functional in Texas by the end of this year and will be hosted in a sizeable facility of 4989 square foot. Typically, libraries hold long rows of book shelves from which book-lovers can choose books of their liking. However, the BiblioTech facility will be set with multiple aisles of computers and gadgets.

The library will also focus on e-readers, given their central important for e-books. To this end, 100 e-readers will be available in BiblioTech. These e-readers will be available to the users when they sign up so that they can carry them around the library or even take them out.

Another 50 e-readers for children will be provided, together with 50 computers stations, 25 tablets and 25 laptops. Tablets and laptops will be available within the library and users won’t be allowed to take them out.

The project was spearheaded by Judge Nelson Wolff and due to his relentless work, is finally nearing its realization. Speaking about it, Wolff said, “We all know the world is changing. I am an avid book reader. I read hardcover books, I have a collection of 1,000 first editions. Books are important to me. But the world is changing and this is the best, most effective way to bring services to our community.”

BiblioTech hopes to provide its readers with access to more than 10,000 book titles by the time it is launched. The project team also intends to regularly add to this collection over the coming years. Currently, the library is focusing on finding the right vendors to provide the equipment for the library as well as aspiring for partnerships with multiple e-book providers.
