Hewlett-Packard (HP) announced its 7-inch Android tablet Slate 7 in February at MWC 2013. Last Tuesday, HP announced that it is going to bring two new tablets, SlateBook x2 and Split x2. The two hybrid tablets/notebooks will join HP’s 11.6-inch ENVY x2 to make a new x2 family.
The SlateBook x2 hybrid tablet/notebook (above) runs on Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean). The tablet comes with 10.1-inch BrightView IPS touch display providing a resolution of 1920 x 1200, Nvidia’s brand-new Tegra 4 chip that can double as a laptop and 72 GPU cores. According to HP, Nvidia Tegra 4 processor of the SlateBoook x2 “detachable” will provide users with a more realistic gaming experience, coupled with high def video playback.
This hybrid tablet/notebook also packs 64GB of storage (expandable via a microSD card), a 2-megapixel rear camera, a 720p webcam at the front, USB 2.0, HDMI 1.4 ports, DTS Sound+ and stereo speakers. It supports up to 4GB of memory, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless connectivity .
The tablet part of the two-in-one device is attached by a magnetic hinge to the keyboard base, which packs its own battery for extended uptime, and features chiclet-style keys and a trackpad. The SlateBook x2 will cost $479.99 and it will be released in August. The device will be available in two colors – smoky sliver and white.
On the other side, the Intel-powered Split x2 (above) runs on Windows 8 OS. This tablet comes with a 13.3-inch BrightView IPS display providing a resolution of 1366 x 768 and a 3rd gen Intel Core i3 or i5 processor. It also packs an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, a 2-megapixel HP TrueVision Full HD webcam, and Beats Audio through dual speakers.
The device also supports up to 128 GB of solid state storage and up to 8 GB of RAM, USB 3.0 and HDMI 1.4 ports. There’s a microSD expansion slot, included 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The Split x2 will cost $799.99 and it will be released in August too, like the SlateBook x2.
