Fujifilm USA announces the launch of the FinePix XP10, the first in a new category of super-tough, Four-Proof’ digital compact cameras – Waterproof, Freezeproof, Shockproof and Dustproof.
It’s always hard to justify spending extra for a waterproof camera that will do you good at the beach but deliver mediocre image quality everywhere else. Photography Blog has taken a look at Fujifilm’s new 12 megapixel FinePix XP10 waterproof shooter and, while it predictably falls short of DSLR-level quality (or even high-end compacts), it overall scores a very positive review thanks to its 5x zoom lens, 720p video recording, solid construction, and a “pleasingly compact” design that we think looks very funky (in a good way).

For that kind of money this thing wouldn’t make a bad side-kick for your go-to camera, a sort of stunty stand-in for when the going gets tough… or perhaps just damp.

My fuji fine pix is fine as long as you dont want to take pix hahahahah . after two months the unit would not display properly after 3 months it wont even turn on . When we called tech support about an issue with the video clicking noise they said “its a cheap camera not a video camera” well i just paid 180 buck to find out fuji SUCKS!
I am not happy with this camera. I’ve used many digital cameras before but this one takes the lowest quality pictures of any digital camera I’ve ever used. Perhaps the waterproof and shockproof features have compromised its picture taking quality. I’ve tried various settings with not one turning out good pictures.
The tone of colour and the quality of the tonal rendering of the images is not sensitive and smooth compared to results from other digital camera brands and models.
With regards to video its nice the zoom works during shooting in video mode however it adds the zooming noises to the final video so I wouldn’t recommend it. The interface for starting and stopping a video is not intuitive even after you have used it several times. The control to stopping a video recording is confusing even though it should be such a simple intuitive feature.
Overall the button positioning is incredibly awkward and the buttons are all positioned in strange places making the camera difficult to hold and shoot pictures. The shape of the camera also makes it very difficult to hold.
The only reason I would buy this camera is for shooting photos underwater – I have not tried this yet.
Well I just bought this camera this summer for my birthday while on vacation in Tx…I bought it at kmart it was on sale…when I got back to Florida I went to the beach a couple of times and tryed it under water and it worked great my kids loved it…but now I’m having trouble with it…it doesn’t want to flash at all 🙁 and it turns off right away by itself…doesn’t stay on not even for 5 minutes…can I fix this???
All the menu buttons quit working, so I can’t change any settings. Only used it a handful of times, but after reading the above, I guess I should be thankful that it even turns on. BTW, photos are crappy, like looking through milky coke-rim glasses. Bought it as a novelty for my 11-year and the dang thing doesn’t even work.
