Google Chrome users, Adblock Plus has just released its AdBlock Plus 1.3 for Google Chrome plugin to the public. The plug-in was in beta-phase for a few months but the functionality is now up-to par with the Firefox variety. At The Tech Journal we aren’t huge fans of the plug-in and suggest you stay away, however we’ll continue to discuss key features of the plug-in.
One major update with Adblock 1.3 for Chrome the “acceptable ads” feature implanted. Ultimately, adblock realizes that some advertising isn’t considered annoying — including static ads that don’t affect the web-browsing experience. Those that are against all-sorts of advertisements can completely disable this function if desired.
Adblock 1.3 also comes equipped with a ‘first-run’ page to explain the basics of the plug-in. This will only run on new installations or updates to the plug-in. The remainder of the updates mainly relate to bug-fixes of the previous version:
- Added support for element hiding exceptions.
- Made use of new security features in new Google Chrome versions.
- Worked around Chrome issue 49001 (some websites breaking due to our element hiding).
- Fixed a data corruption bug that would sometimes corrupt the filters.
- Removed sending of the Do-Not-Track header now that Chrome is capable of doing it itself.
