Towards the end of 2012, HP unveiled EliteBook Folio ultrabook. The ultrabook was primarily geared at major corporations and enterprise users. But it came with the huge drawback that it packed a screen resolution of 1366 x 768. Thankfully, HP has now announced that the laptop will be equipped with the option of a 1600 x 900 resolution by March.
EliteBook Folio has otherwise attracted raving reviews but for the contention cited by many towards its screen resolution. The ultrabook is fairly well-powered and is geared towards high-end users, although it can serve as well for personal users, being finely suited for both work and play environments.
Even when meant only for business users, HP ought to have equipped it with a better screen resolution. In recent times, we have seen many machines featuring up to 1080p displays which means that the ante has gone up for the ultrabook market at large.
Apparently, HP is well aware of the contentions that have been expressed towards the machine. And now, it has announced that it will soon be rolling out a 1600 x 900 screen option for the prospective users.
However, the option could be availed only by US and European customers and will become available in early March. HP hasn’t revealed what additional costs a user would incur by availing the option. We hope, for HP’s sake, that the upgrade is affordable for the average user – or the charms of the machine may be all but lost on non-enterprise users.
