Two primary things that determine the success of any mobile device are looks and performance. When it comes to looks, the overall feel and thickness of a smartphone or a tablet is considered very significant. Considering this criterion, Sony’s new Xperia Tablet Z is a hands-down winner, being the thinnest 10.1-inch tablet ever.
Sony has taken the occasion of MWC 2013 to lift the wraps off its Xperia Tablet Z which, it claims, is mere 6.9-millimeter thin. Featuring a 10.1-inch size, this tablet is certainly the thinnest slate in the mainstream tablet market.
What is even more intriguing is that despite of its size, Xperia Z packs fairly good specifications. It has a quad-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor together with 2GB of RAM and a good enough 1920 x 1200 display. The Android flavor that is running atop is Jelly Bean.
The front camera comes with 8-megapixel sensor, whereas the rear of the tablet features a 2-megapixel camera. Given its slim waist line, it shouldn’t be surprising that the tablet weighs a mere 495 grams. The tablet will be available with 16GB and 32GB configurations, together with the option of extending the storage space to up to 64GB via microSD cards.
The tablet is yet to be unveiled at MWC 2013 and Sony intends to peg the price for the 16GB Wi-Fi only model for $499, whereas the 32GB Wi-Fi only model will be available for $599. But, there is no official word from Sony regarding a 4G flavor of Xperia Tablet Z.
