Canon PowerShot S95

The new Canon S95 includes the ultra-slim, ultra-intelligent S95 is loaded with all a serious photographer’s must-haves, including a bright f/2.0 wide-angle lens and professional-style control ring for intuitive manual control…..

Canon today unveils the successor to the highly popular and celebrated S90: the exceptional PowerShot S95. In 2009, the PowerShot S90 featured a 28mm wide angle lens and manual control ring was one of the most highly-anticipated cameras of the year. This year, building on the overwhelming success of the S90, the PowerShot S95 looks set to raise the bar even higher to create an unmatched photography experience. With the new HS System technology, a new High Dynamic Range mode, Hybrid Image Stabiliser (IS) function and High Definition (HD) movie recording capabilities, the PowerShot S95 will be the camera for 2010.

The S95 uses the same larger-than-usual 1/1.7-inch type high-sensitivity CCD sensor found in the S90, and well, the bulk of the remaining features and design are pretty much the same, too, including the f2-4.9 28-105mm-equivalent lens and poor flash placement. It does have new Hybrid IS image stabilization, which “employs both an angular sensor and an accelerometer, enabling it to suppress both the blur caused by the angle of the camera and the “shift blur” that happens when your subject moves parallel to the camera, a problem that is especially noticeable at large zoom factors.” The S90 is a nice camera for close-ups, so this should make the S95 an even better macro shooter.

This Canon Powershot S95 premium compact is considered as the successor to the S90. It has an upgraded sensor capable of 720p HD video recording and the company’s “Hybrid IS” system that compensate for more type of movement.

Image quality has always been a top priority at Canon. With each new generation of PowerShot cameras, we look to incorporate the latest technologies that will enhance every photographer’s experience.” said Andrew Koh, Director and General Manager of the Consumer Imaging and Information Division, Canon Singapore. “The PowerShot S95 includes new advanced features such as Canon’s newly developed Hybrid IS technology and High Dynamic Range mode which will redefine and surpass existing standards of photography.

At the heart of Canon’s new PowerShot S95 is the revolutionary HS System technology. The new HS System combines Canon’s DIGIC 4 imaging processor with a 10.0 Megapixel, high-sensitivity CCD sensor to deliver high quality images with low noise, even in challenging lighting conditions. The PowerShot S95’s f/2.0 lens also permits more light to reach the sensor, allowing higher shutter speeds to be used and reducing the effects of camera shake. This combination of Canon’s HS System and the bright f/2.0 lens makes flash-free photography possible in more situations than ever before, allowing for scenes to be captured in their natural state.

Don’t be fooled by its petite and diminutive size. Beneath the all-new PowerShot S95’s compact form lies a f/2.0, 28mm wide-angle lens. Together with Canon’s Optical Image Stabiliser (IS) technology, photographers will no longer face challenges zooming in. Not only does the 3.8x optical zoom enable users to get closer to the action, it also minimises the blurriness that is often associated with longer exposures in low-light conditions.

The PowerShot S95 has been enhanced with 720p High Definiton (HD) video capability so that users can shoot and record high quality footage without any hassle. For macro-photography enthusiasts, the PowerShot S95 is Canon’s first-ever PowerShot model to come equipped with the highly advanced Hybrid IS function that reduces angular and shift camera shakes for greater ease and peace-of-mind when taking close-up shots.

To track subjects that are in motion, the PowerShot S95’s new Tracking AF mode offers the ability to track and focus on moving subjects while producing the sharpest and clearest images.Similar to its predecessor, the PowerShot S95 comes with a professional-style control ring for intuitive manual control that, when rotated, facilitates the quick adjustment of a variety of settings, including ISO speeds, Aspect Ratio, Contrast as well as Focusing.

With the new HS System technology and High Dynamic Range mode, the PowerShot S95 allows the capture of high contrast scenes that are closer to how they appear to the human eye.Exceeding the limitations of conventional cameras, the PowerShot S95 takes three different exposures of the same scene before analysing and combining shots to create a single image in-camera. The result is an image that captures highlight and shadow detail closer to how the photographer sees it.

So really the only significant difference is the addition of 720p HD-quality movie capture and two mics for stereo sound. There’s also a new HDR mode that combines three shots at different exposures into one photo with better highlights and shadows. but that’s not much of a reason to upgrade. (It apparently needs to be on a tripod to do this, too.)Look for the PowerShot S95 in late August for $399.99. By the way, Canon called the S95 a sibling to the S90 in the press announcement, so it’s possible the S90 will stay around a little longer at a lower price.
