According to fresh interviews published in the media recently, Tumblr is making significant changes in the top of the editorial teams. Chris Mohney will hold the newly created position of editor in chief and Jessica Bennett will be the next executive editor. Previously, Chris Mohney was Senior Vice President of content at BlackBook Media for fifteen months, until 2010.
Before this job, Chris Mohney worked for one of Tumblr’s rivals Gawker. While analysts believe that he and his new colleague, Jessica Bennet will document the Tumblr services and marketing it to users, he explain for The Observer that they will take a different approach on their new mission at Tumblr. “Jessica and I are synmpatico in that we’re not interested in doing PR. Yes, we want to highlight cool and creative things. But it’s a lot less ‘look at all these wonderful Tumblrs’ and more ‘look at all this great work on Tumblr’,” explained Mohney.
The new executive editor, Jessica Bennett was senior writer editor at Newsweek and The Daily Beast. “Basically, if Tumblr were a city of 42 million, I’m trying to figure out how we cover the ideas, themes and people who live in it,” she said in an interview for The New York Times, explaining that she has a complicated mission to accomplish. In addition Jessica Bennett confirms that her job is to do “real journalism and analysis, not P.R. fluff.”
