Romney’s ‘Binders Full Of Women’ Comment Becomes A Laughing Stock On Web

Mitt Romney has made a lot of remarks during his public appearances which were turned into internet memes. He added yet another to this list when he mentioned ‘binders full of women’ in a recent debate. The rather stupid remark was soon turned into an internet meme, actively used in comments on the pages of binder vendors on Amazon.

Binders full of women

Romney was trying to show how he was all in for gender equality during his speech and said, “I went to a number of women’s groups and said, ‘Can you help us find folks? And [they] brought us whole binders full of women.”

While the rest of what he said wasn’t very significant, the phrase ‘binders full of women’ was rather strange. We have seen binders full of pages, documents and other things but no one ever said anything about binders full of women.

Quirky comments on Amazon:
Soon after the remark, an Amazon meme was created based on this. A number of vendors advertising their binders on the online retailer began mentioning how their binders were awesome, yet came without women.

Comments on Amazon also took the whole humor surrounding the binder-phrase to an all-new level. One comment, for instance, read, “I just love being in here with all the girls! It’s like our own little club. Who knew we were all so competent? What I want to know is. . . can we still cook and stay within the binder?”

Another comment at the Uranium Ore page stated, “This is hands down the best binder ever manufactured in China.” Yet another person threw in an extra dose of wit, “if you’re looking for a binder to fill with women, this is the right one for you. A woman’s place is in her binder.”

The meme wasn’t confined to Amazon alone, although it would seem more relevant for binder vendors. It spread on to other social media hubs such as Tumblr, Facebook and Twitter.
