Court Allows Kim Dotcom To Sue New Zealand’s Security Bureau

In his ongoing legal battle with the New Zealand government, MegaUpload’s founder Kim Dotcom has been told by a court that if he wishes, he can sue the spy agency of the country. Apparently, this permission has been granted because the Government Communications Security Bureau (GCSB) acted illegally in spying on Dotcom.

The government has been repeatedly snubbed by the courts in New Zealand over its part in an illegal raid at Dotcom’s mansion. The raid resulted in the take-down of the wildly popular site, MegaUpload, and was apparently co-planned by FBI and other U.S. authorities.

However, it later transpired during court proceedings that Dotcom has a New Zealand nationality and that the acts perpetuated by GCSB in spying on him and launching a raid against him were not in accordance with the law. As a result of this, the Prime Minister of the country himself had to apologize over the whole fiasco.

The matter is far from over, though. Dotcom and his team are currently embroiled in fighting against extradition to the U.S. Naturally, U.S. authorities want the entire team extradited so that they can tried in States and probably made an example for others who decide to challenge the rich content industry.

Interestingly, Dotcom is now free to launch a lawsuit against GCSB for its role in all of this. Whereas it is yet unsure whether or not he will do so, the prospect of it is quite interesting. We can only imagine what the outcome of such litigation would be.
