DASH: A DIY Robot Runs Like A Maniac Cockroach

Dash Robotics build high-performance, low-cost robots by bringing together technology, biology, and advanced manufacturing techniques. Lately the company has built such a robot that runs like a maniac cockroach.

The newly built robot is called Dynamic Autonomous Sprawled Hexapod (DASH). It is an insect-inspired simple robot kit that runs like the fastest, most rectangular cockroach ever.

However, each DASH kit contains a flat panel made out of a plastic-and-cardboard material with precut parts. What you have to do is to piece together like Legos. Those parts will enclose an electronic component that lets you control the six-legged robot with either an iOS or an Android app.

Prototypes will be available to the first 1,000 backers who pledge at least $65. Dash Robotics hopes to release its kits commercially and to keep them priced below $70. Here’s video of DASH.
