Lately, the rumor mill is spinning around the upcoming AMD’s Radeon HD 7900 series of graphics cards. More industry observers give as sure the release date at the 2012 Consumers Electronics Show in Las Vegas, on January 9th. The first to suggest the event is Turkish site Hardware News (Donanim Haber) which has information that the company already made electronic invitations for this event. Donanim Haber also gives the names of the anticipated Radeon products: Radeon HD 7970, presumably named “GPU Radeon HD 7970 Tahiti XT” will be top of the line model while and HD 7950, “GPU Radeon HD 7950 Pro Tahiti” a more modest version.
Chinese language website VR-Zone also has some intriguing information to add to the table. Apparently, the next generation AMD Radeon graphic cards will be the first to employ 28nm chips. Sources from the manufacturers hint that the new cards will need 384-bit memory interface. VR-Zone editors managed to give us a sneak preview with one of the upcoming HD 7900 Tahiti graphic cards and even estimate the size: 10 inches in length.
Previously the rumors suggested that the new AMD products will be using 32-bit GDDR5 SDRAM and they will be able to deliver up to 1.5GB of high-speed graphics memory. Passionate gamers must be at the edge of their seats at this point in the anticipation of the release which is less than a month away. Fudzilla takes it a step further and even suggests the prices: US $549 for the HD 7970 and US $449 for HD 7950, while on the European market the two anticipated chipsets will cost somewhere around €500. However, AMD refused to comment all the rumor frenzy and company officials prefer to keep the secret on this matter.
