Intel Plans Its Next Big Chip For Ultrabooks – Haswell

Ultrabooks running Windows 7 haven’t been a particularly catching trend. They have been there and are being offered by a number of vendors but their success and popularity is very limited. Although we can expect this to change somewhat with the launch of Windows 8, Windows ultrabooks will still need a powerful hardware to go with it.

And Intel may be planning to provide the ultrabook vendors just that. According to reports as well as Intel’s own revelations, the chip giant is working on a new, revolutionary chip design called ‘Haswell.’

This will essentially be the chip that Intel intends to unveil for the third stage of ultrabooks. Although Intel hasn’t unveiled a lot about this new design (we have got some insights into the design from leaked confidential documents of Intel Haswell earlier) , we do know that the new chip is being designed with really thin PCs in mind. This means that Haswell will probably be smaller in size, a lot more powerful and will be able to deliver even better graphical performance.

However, Haswell is not expected to arrive any time soon. Most probably, it will hit the shelves in 2013 which means that the first generation of Windows 8 ultrabooks wouldn’t be using it. We can expect, though, that it will make a perfect choice for the second generation of Windows 8 ultrabooks in 2013. There is also a possibility that Microsoft, which is also in the hardware business now, may choose Haswell to punch up the power in the next model of its Surface tablets.
