Things have been rather quite on the Windows Phone front. Microsoft had hoped that with the release of Windows Phone 8, it will be able to significantly bolster the sales of WP devices but that doesn’t seem to be happening. However, the Windows Phone Store is growing at an excellent pace, the latest statistics suggest.
Nearly six months ago, we were told that the Windows Phone Store, then called the Windows Phone Marketplace, had crossed the mark of 100,000 apps. That, in itself, was a significant achievement for the store, given the fact that the Windows Phone platform was fairly late to enter the fray of mobile ecosystems.
What is even more impressive is that in the six months since, the Store has reached 120,000 apps. In other words, it has witnessed a 20% growth in this time span, a growth which is rather impressive by all measures.
Moreover, Nokia was quick to reveal recently that of the 50 top iOS and Android applications, 46 are already available in the Windows Phone Store. So at least as far as the popular and most widely used apps are concerned, WP Store seems at par with its other rivals.
Microsoft has also announced that since Windows Phone 8 was launched a few weeks back, WP developers have witnessed more than 100% increase in revenue. While the company didn’t give the specifics, it does seem that WP apps are finally gaining some traction among the users, something which is certainly good news for the developers who have invested their time and money into developing Windows Phone 8 apps.
