Windows 8 OS And Device Pre-Order Now Available In Select Stores

Microsoft has opened pre-order of boxed Windows 8 devices, as well as boxed Windows 8 Pro operating system. The Windows Blog announced the new development yesterday. The blog post didn’t reveal any new information about pricing, instead a reiteration of the old pricing schemes.

The Windows 8 Pro boxed upgrade edition is available for pre-order at select $69.99. The packages are available in Amazon and Newegg. Users who want to wait till October 26, the official launch date of Windows 8, will be able to upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for $39.99 from Windows .com using Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant.

Both of these promotions, retail and online, will run till January 31, 2013. After that, the price of the retail package would jump to $199.99, and the online package will probably trail buy a few bucks.

Yesterday, Microsoft also announced the availability of Windows 8 PCs and devices from select OEM partners. Customers will now be able to pre-order Windows 8 devices from Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Samsung and Sony.
