Canadian e-reader maker Kobo has announced Aura HD, a new upper-end premium e-reader with attractive specifications along with a 6.8-inch HD screen. According to Kobo, Aura HD e-reader has the highest-resolution display than any other e-reader available in the market today.

The 6.8-inch Kobo Aura HD e-reader weighs 240 g (8.4658 oz) and measures 175.7 mm x 128.3 mm x 11.7 mm (6.91-inch x 5.05-inch x 0.46-inch). This tablet has 6.8-inch EInk Pearl HD display that can provide a superb resolution of 1440 x 1080 and 265 dpi. Kobo claims that the 6.8-inch screen size delivers “30 percent more reading surface and the closest experience to print-on-paper — showcasing text and high-resolution images beautifully.”

The e-reader comes with a 1 GHz processor which is said to be 20% faster than “other leading e-readers” and 4GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 32GB via a microSD card. The battery of Kobo Aura HD e-reader can provide power up to 30 hours at a stretch on a single (full) charge (depends on your LED and Wi-Fi habits). Besides, users can access the device’s “experimental” web browser, as well as the Kobo bookstore, which carries more than 3 million books, newspapers, and magazines via a Wi-Fi connection.

The Aura HD supports typical array of e-book, text, comic and image formats, including EPUB. The Kobo Aura HD costs $169.99 and will be available for pre-order online in the U.S. starting Tuesday, April 16. It will hit shelves in Canada and the U.K. starting April 25 with international availability due in May.
