World’s First Water-Powered Mobile Phone Charger Coming To US This Spring

Earlier, we have seen water-powered lantern, but we haven’t seen any water powered charger for mobile phones, digital cameras or GPS devices till now. We reported around 2 years ago that PowerTrekk was planning to build world’s first portable fuel cell charger that runs on water and can charge mobile phones in emergency situations. The good news is PowerTrekk has already made the world’s first portable fuel cell charger and the device is scheduled to be launched in the U.S. this Spring.

So, how does the charger work? First, a user needs to fill up the devices water tank (with about half a shot of water), and then he/she needs to add a one-time-use Pukk inside the device’s fuel compartment. Each Pukk will produce 2.5 watts at 5 volts. This is fair enough to fully charge an iPhone. When electricity will be available, users will be able to charge the separate internal battery of the PowerTrekk phone charger for later use.

The cost of this device will be $229. And to use the PowerTrekk, users will also need to spend $4 extra to purchase each PowerTrekk Pukk. The device will be available in April in the U.S.
