I have a jaibroken 3GS 3.1.3 on 5.12.01 (not tethered – stays jaibroken if i turn it on/off). I followed the guide multiple times and get an error 1600, 1604 every time.
HOW TO GET OUT OF DFU OR RECOVERY MODE: DFU: just hold power and home untill phone reboots. RECOVERY: download and use Recboot (will need libUSB also).

I unlocked it previously with jailbreakme (original) about 8 months ago and haven’t upgraded or messed around with it since.
