Jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 with Greenpoison RC5 on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch[How To Video Guide]

Chronic Dev Team has just released Greenpois0n RC5 to apply untethered jailbreak on iOS 4.2.1 to all idevices. Greenspoison rc5 supports these idevices – iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad, iPod Touch 3G and iPod Touch 4G. Unlike Redsn0w 0.9.7, GreenPois0n RC5 doesn’t require you to have SHSH blobs of 4.2b3 saved on Cydia. It’s a mac version and Windows Version will release soon.

Since Windows version of Greenpois0n RC5 is not released yet, so this guide is for Mac users only.

Disclaimer: This guide is posted for testing and educational purposes only. Follow it at your own risk. We won’t be responsible for any damage to your any device.

The step by step guidelines are as follows.

Step 1: Back up your device first using iTunes.

Step 2: Restore to fresh iOS 4.2.1 firmware version. (If you rely on unlock, please read the Part 2. Never restore to Fresh iOS 4.2.1 because it will update the baseband and you may loose the ability to unlock)

Step 3: Download Greenpoison RC5, extract it and run it.

Step 4: Click on “Jailbreak” button and follow the instructions to put your device into DFU mode.

* Press and hold the sleep button for 2 seconds
* Continue holding sleep; press and hold home for 10 seconds.
* Release sleep button; continue holding home for 15 seconds.

Step 5: Once your device is into DFU mode, the jailbreak process starts.

Step 6: After the successful jailbreak your iPhone will restart.

Step 7: You will notice a new Loader icon on springboard. Press to launch it, install Cydia. Once Cydia is installed on your iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS etc, you will prompted whether you want to remove the Loader or not. Press the remove button and then press Home button.

Step 8: You have successfully jailbroken (untethered) your device on latest iOS 4.2.1.

That’s it.

Ummmm yeah, there’s no cydia appearing in loader.

Agreed. Have same problem on iPad. No idea how to fix.

Greenpois0n completes, but phones just reboots and there’s no loader icon!

    This happened over and over with me. First with RC1, GP would say ‘complete’, but nothing would have worked. With RC2, instead of saying ‘complete’, it said ‘Failed’. I managed to get it to finally work by doing this;

    1. Connect iphone to computer. Turn it off in usual way and close iTunes.
    2. Open “terminal”, type SUDO, open Greenpois0n as “Show package contents”, go MacOS folder & drag greenpois0n to terminal & hit enter. This will show some logs and will open the Greenpois0n program.
    3. Follow the GP instructions as normal. I kept holding the home button at the final stage until GP finally said complete. This may be overkill, but it seemed to work. As GP is running, you’ll see lots of logs appearing in the terminal window.
    4. The screen on the iPhone will go white temporarily, the go lack and lots of logs will appear.
    5. It will reboot a couple of times, with the animated GP logo.
    6. Success!

Hope this helps anyone who was having the same issues I was.

    Cheers

After jailbreak I used redsnow to add Cydia and things seem to be fine however my iPhone locks up frequently after GP jailbreak. I can hold power button until it restates (about 1minute of holding button) and things work again. Anyone know if there is a fix for this?

After several attempts without loader being installed I tried this.

    It worked PERFECT!!!

I’m on 4.0.1, can I update with redsnow ( to keep my activation) then rejailbreak with GP?

I don’t know if it worked, now, i am stuck on the codes. it’s been about 9 hours now. Am i doing something wrong? Or is there just something wrong with my Mac or iPod. I have iPod 4.3 and was told this would work, it hasn’t. 🙁 HELP!

I have a 3G with 4.2.1, and every time I attempt to jailbreak with GP it never makes it past the stage where you put it into DFU. iTunes recognizes it as such but neither rc5 or rc6 will go past the enter dfu mode screen. Any ideas?
