Sprint To Offer Unlimited Data Plans For iPhone 4S

A Sprint spokesperson said that the newly announced iPhone 4S will be eligible for the carrier’s unlimited data plan and pricing will start at $69.99 for unlimited data and 450 talk minutes with the Simply Everything unlimited calling and data running you $99.99. Sprint will be the only US carrier offering an unlimited plan, after AT&T and Verizon dropped theirs, making the deal very tempting and Sprint will also offer the hotspot tethering service but it will have a 5GB cap on that. Sprint will also sell the iPhone 4 8GB and Sprint still doesn’t have the iPhone 4S listed on their site…………………

Sprint Nextel confirmed that its iPhone 4S will come with the option of an unlimited data plan and Sprint representative Michelle Leff Mermelstein said the company wouldn’t change its plans, which range between $69.99 and $99.99 a month. Verizon first started offering Apple‘s iPhone 4 earlier in the year, which offered iPhone customers unlimited data plans and it as seen as one of the unique selling points of Verizon iPhone, but Verizon has since moved to the tiered data plans like AT&T. The $69.99 plan comes with unlimited data, text messages, 450 calling minutes and unlimited calling to any cell phone in the country. An $89.99 plan comes with 900 minutes on top of the data, text and mobile-to-mobile calls, while a $99.99 plan features unlimited access to all services. The company is banking that the lure of an unlimited plan–something AT&T and Verizon Wireless no longer offer to new customers–will be enough to reverse its trend of contract subscriber losses, revive its revenue and help it back on to the road to profitability. It has long used unlimited as an additional sales tool beyond price, running campaigns that mock its competitors’ tiered plans or willingness to slow down their customers’ connection speed. The presence of Sprint will only drive further iPhone sales for Apple. Sprint will sell both the new iPhone 4S and the older $99 iPhone 4. AllThingsD, also confirmed that Sprint will indeed be offering unlimited data plans to iPhone 4S customers to compete with AT&T and Verizon who have moved to tiered data plans and in below you will find the press release shot via sprintfeed.com:

“We will be offering the benefit of our unlimited plans that start at just $69.99,” said spokeswoman Michelle Leff Mermelstein. Sprint’s $69.99 plan includes unlimited data and 450 voice minutes as well as unlimited mobile-to-mobile calling. Unlimited calling and data costs $99 a month.

Sprint is counting on unlimited pricing to help it stand out from AT&T and Verizon — which will also carry the very same iPhone 4S. In addition, Sprint and Verizon will have the iPhone 4, while only AT&T will have the older iPhone 3GS to offer for free with a new contract.

As for whether Sprint will be able to handle all of that traffic, Mermelstein said, “We have every confidence in the ability of our 3G network to handle the influx of devices we expect to get. It certainly hasn’t been an issue to date.”
