Untethered Jailbreak For iOS 5.1.1, Absinthe 2.0, Will Be Launched This Week

Ever since Apple rolled out an update for its mobile OS, the iOS 5.1.1, the iOS community and iOS hackers have been working hard to find an untethered jailbreak for the firmware. Now, it seems that the notable iOS hackers are right on the verge of the jailbreak and may make it available pretty soon.

Pod2g, who is quite an icon in the world of iOS jailbreaking, had earlier announced that the untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1.1 is just a ‘matter of days.’ However, this time Pod2g and his team, the Chronic Dev Team, may be unveiling the jailbreak at an event.

Scheduled this week is a hacking convention called ‘Hack in the Box’ and it is being expected that the jailbreak that Chronic Dev Team will be offering will be unveiled during this event. The new jailbreak for iOS 5.1.1 will be called Absinthe 2.0, since the untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 was being called Absinthe.

Pod2g had earlier also stated that once Absinthe 2.0 is out, it will be able to support a whole lot of Apple devices. These include:

  • Phone 3Gs
  • iPhone 4
  • iPhone 4 CDMA
  • iPhone 4S
  • iPad 1
  • iPad 2 Wifi
  • iPad 2 GSM
  • iPad 2 CDMA
  • iPad 3 Wifi
  • iPad 3 CDMA
  • iPod 3G
  • iPod 4G

Apparently, the only device that will find no support from this jailbreak will be Apple TV. Also, the jailbreak will most probably be offered first for OS X users, then for Windows users and finally for Linux users, as is usually the case. iOS users, at large, have been eagerly waiting for this jailbreak and it is being expected that this is going to be a huge hit.

Xvolks has also posted a video demonstrating a working version of Absinthe 2.0. You can view the video here.
