Microsoft has finally rolled out the option of sending video messaging through Skype. The option is available on a number of devices, including many mobile platforms. Ironically enough, Microsoft’s own Windows Phone platform only partially supports this feature for now.
The option of video messaging is a new addition to the widely-used Skype. Through video messages, users can send and receive up to three minutes of video to each other. These videos can be sent to both offline and online users.
Initially, Microsoft had rolled out the beta version of the feature, but with the new full roll-out users can send as many video messages as they want to, absolutely free of cost. The feature is already available on a whole range of platforms, including Windows Desktop, Windows 8, Mac, Android, Blackberry, iPhone and iPad.
Surprisingly, when it comes to Microsoft’s own mobile platform, the Windows Phone, users can only receive and view video messages on Skype but can not record and send their own video messages. According to a Microsoft spokesperson, “Windows Phone users can already receive and view Video Messages. We will inform you if we add send capability at a later date.”
Formerly, users had to sign up for Skype Premium in order to send unlimited video messages but with the full release of the feature, it is good to note that the feature is available for free to all users. We sincerely hope that Windows Phone users will receive full support for video messages soon enough.
