Apple Offers Up To $320 For iPad 2

Apple’s Reuse and Recycling program has been live for a while, offering gift cards against your old Apple devices such older iPhone devices, iPad tablets and Macs. Now that the launch of the ‘new iPad’ has put it in the place of the latest Apple tablet, Apple has included iPad 2 in its recycling program. So you can turn in your iPad 2 to Apple and get up to $320 gift card in return, which is a great deal especially if you plan on buying the new iPad from Apple.

The $320 mark from Apple, which is by the way the highest Apple is offering for an iPad 2, is for iPad 2 64GB model with WiFi and 3G. With this maximum bar, the rest of the model of course are tagged at lesser prices. For instance, iPad 2 64 GB WiFi will be traded by Apple against $275 whereas the minimum price Apple is offering on an iPad 2 model is that for iPad 2 16GB model with Wifi. Apple is offering $205 for it.

Be reminded, though, that Apple will pay you in Apple gift cards, which you can redeem to purchase Apple’s merchandise. And that is why that’s a good deal if you plan on getting a new iPad.

These deals from Apple are fairly representative of the average price at which iPad 2 is being traded elsewhere in the online market, for instance at eBay and other online retailers. However one retailer which is offering a significantly higher price than Apple against your older iPad 2 is Amazon. For instance, Apple is offering $320 for a 64 GB Wifi+3G iPad 2 whereas Amazon is offering as much as $460 for the same tablet! Plus, Apple is going to pay you the stated price if your tablet is, in a way, very new. Amazon, on the other hand, is asking for a ‘like-new’ tablet. To cite another example, Apple puts the value of a 16GB iPad 2 with Wifi at $205 while Amazon is going to trade it in for $300. That’s a significant difference which may well sway the decision of many.

Amazon’s deal is of course better than Apple’s but only if you don’t plan on getting any Apple merchandise directly from Apple. This is because Amazon is going to pay you as gift card and that gift card will obviously be tied to products offered on Amazon. But then, even the new iPad will be available on Amazon sooner or later, so you don’t get to bereaved of anything when making the deal with Amazon.
