Microsoft Surface Tablet Running Windows RT May Cost Below $350

October 26 – the biggest date of the year for Microsoft. The company will launch its flagship Windows 8 operating system on this day. But, that’s not all. Microsoft will also launch its Surface tablets, with Windows RT and Windows 8 Pro flavor, on the same day. Microsoft has left the pricing of Surface tablets a secret so far. But a contest run by Dummies.com has hinted at a sub-$350 price-tag for the Windows RT version of the tablet.

Microsoft Surface Tablet

The competition by dummies.com is offering contestants the chance to win a Microsoft Surface Tablet, one copy of the Windows 8 For Dummies and one copy of Surface For Dummies books. The total value of the package is $350.00, which means that the specific Surface tablet will be price around the $300 mark.

When Microsoft first announced the Surface tablet last summer, speculations over pricing has gone berserk. One main rumor indicated that the tablet would retail for near $199. CEO Steve Ballmer later indicated that pricing would fall near $1000, rapidly awing users away from the tablet.

A price-point near-or-below the $300 mark will look to compete head to head with Android tablets including the Nexus 7 and Kindle fire. These tablets are priced competitively around $200; derived on particular models. The iPad Mini is even expected to launch around the same time, and at an equivalent price. The game for market share may benefit the consumers, ultimately.
