Microsoft’s Surface Tablet Will Initially Launch As Wi-Fi Only

Microsoft has stirred a lot of excitement in the tech world by unveiling its very own Surface tablets. Its a move not many had anticipated and it pits Microsoft directly against the likes of Apple. However, will Surface tablets be able to satisfy the users once it becomes available?

Whereas Surface tablets are definitely gorgeous, the chief concern remains their price as well as some other factors. For instance, we are yet to know from Microsoft what connectivity options will be available in the tablets.

A report by Bloomberg is now claiming that for now, Microsoft will be launching only the Wi-Fi versions of the tablet. This may put off a whole lot of users who wish to stay connected all the time and tend to use their tablets in conjunction with connections from wireless carriers.

This would also mean that Microsoft is cutting own the wireless carriers, thus deciding to market the tablet on its own, something which can put a whole lot of pressure and responsibility on Microsoft.

Moreover, pitching a Wi-Fi only model can put Microsoft at a huge disadvantage against Apple whose latest tablet supports LTE connectivity. More and more users wish to stay connected round the clock and these days and in such a scenario, one fails to understand what kind of strategy Microsoft is pursuing by going for a Wi-Fi only model of its tablet first.

Some have speculated that this may be Microsoft’s strategy to keep the costs down but then again, it may as well turn out to be a move which may keep the sales of Surface tablets low.
