Samsung has been pitted against Apple both in the smartphone and the tablet market, as well as in the legal arena. The two companies have been embroiled in patent disputes for months, and Apple was able to bag a resounding success recently. But now, the Court of Appeals has recommended that a lower court should reconsider the ban on Samsung’s tablet, Galaxy Tab 10.1.
In the case which recently concluded in a Californian court, Apple was able to prove that Samsung was infringing a number of its patents. As a result, Samsung was asked to cough up about $1 billion in damages to Apple.
However, there’s a bright side of things for Samsung, in this verdict. Earlier, Apple was able to get an injunction against the sales of Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablets by Samsung in the U.S. This recent case found that the basis of Apple’s objection weren’t valid and found Samsung innocent in this particular instance. As a result, the Korean electronics maker is now in a position to have the ban lifted from its tablet’s sales.
To this end, even the U.S. Court of Appeals has issued a statement, saying that lower court can take up the issue now. Although this wouldn’t mean a lot for Samsung, since Galaxy Tab tablets aren’t that popular, it would certainly increase the company’s presence in the U.S. market.
Samsung is planning to launch its stylus packed Galaxy Note 2 later this year. The first-generation Galaxy Note was able to trigger millions of sales and Samsung is hoping better sales from Note 2. If Samsung is able to have the ban lifted from the sales of Galaxy Tab 10.1, it would be able to launch Galaxy Note 2 lot more confidently in the U.S. market.
