Microsoft Plans To Give Hotmail A New Look And A New Name

It was about time  Hotmail got redesigned. The mailing service has been draped in more or less the same looks for quite a long time but it seems the time has come for it to get a face-lift. Naturally, with its Windows 8, Microsoft is pretty much hooked to the metro interface and the same interface will be trickling on to these new looks of Hotmail, as per the rumors.

A number of leaked images are purportedly being claimed to be of the new Hotmail. In fact, what is also claimed is that it will no longer be called Hotmail. Rather, it will have a new name – ‘Newmail.’

Newmail has a very strong metro-ish elements to its looks, with the usual colored blocks which do look kind of elegant. At least compared to the current looks of Hotmail, the alleged new looks are definitely far, far better. We only will have to wait and see if all these rumors turn out to be true.

What is also unclear is that will Microsoft pitch Newmail as an altogether new and different mailing service or will Newmail effectively replace Hotmail and take its place. The plans are to make the new design such that it will appear consistent across a whole host of devices and will ‘connect and chat across services like Facebook and Twitter.’

Some of the claimed new features of this Newmail are as follows:

  • A modern interface: faster and cleaner
The simple, fluid and interactive design of Newmail makes it easy to use whether you’re on a desktop, phone or tablet.
  • Get a Newmail email address for your new inbox
You can get a new email address from Newmail. You don’t have to worry about your contacts and previous emails, you’ll keep them. And, you’ll continue receiving messages sent to your current email address.
  • Bring your inbox to life – Connect Facebook
Connect and chat across services like Facebook and Twitter. Keep your contacts information automatically in sync, and see what your friends are up to, right from Newmail.
