Public Registration Opens for .XXX Domains, Would You Care to Buy?

If you ever entertained the idea of buying a .XXX domain, well here’s your long awaited chance. This week the ICM Registry will officially be open to the public for .XXX domains. The ICM Registry is currently working with 50 individual registrars from all around the world to offer a 52-day period and thus giving companies in and outside the pornographic industry the chance to register or block themselves from the domain permanently.

CEO of ICM Registry Stuart Lawley motivated the decision by saying that while the adult entertainment is enjoyable to many adults, it’s not proper for all audiences. Therefore they created the .XXX to answer the needs of the adult industry and pornographic users. The response has been favorable so far, as both adult consumers and adult entertainment providers are very thrilled about the future prospects and benefits that might arise with .XXX.

All .XXX domains will be scanned daily using MCAfee malware scan, being the only online websites to include such a service. Domain pricing starts at around $100 per year, plus an application fee between $80 and $110. It’s important to add, that at least in the near future, .XXX domains won’t become mandatory for sites that feature adult content, therefore those who decide to invest a buck and buy a .XXX domain won’t have to forsaken their previous URL.
