Although Facebook is the largest social network right now, it has been struggling with its mobile revenues. Now, certain inside sources have claimed that in order to increase the engagement of mobile users, Facebook is readying a news service called Reader.
Reader is essentially a news service which displays content from Facebook users in a visually appealing manner. In other words, the service aggregates the news and information from Facebook users but curates them and then, offers them in a highly-tailored outlook.
Since the sources of this service include only Facebook users, we can safely assume that it offers news only about your Family and Friends on Facebook. According to sources close to these developments, Reader looks a lot like Flipboard, which is a popular smartphone and tablet information aggregation app.
Facebook hopes that by offering a more enticing way of consuming information from their friends, users will be spending more time on the social network. This, in turn, would allow Facebook to push out more ads to these users and earn greater revenues. Given that the company has struggled with its mobile revenues, it is understandable that it is trying really hard to improve on this front.
Although the company has reportedly been working on Reader for quite a while now, it is unclear as to when Facebook may decide to roll it out to the public. In fact, it is not even confirmed that the social network may eventually decide to launch Reader for its mobile users.
