The social-networking giant Facebook is very much conscious about the site’s services and security. To make the site invincible from hacking, the company doesn’t even hesitate to deploy hackers to find Bug Bounties in its system. With close to 1 billion users, Facebook is facing a multitude of challenges to maintain and improve the services continually. And the social network seems to push hard. According to new revelations, Facebook engineers are pushing new code into the system twice a day now.
Facebook revealed on August 3 that it has doubled the site’s release speed of shipping new code twice per day. The push is driven by Facebook’s New York office. Facebook’s daily push will be managed by its California release engineering team. Facebook will update its code twice daily as part of a renewed commitment to “ship early, ship often.”
Release engineering manager Chuck Rossi said, “The New York-based push will give much more power to our engineers who aren’t based on the west coast of the U.S. and will ensure they’re able to move and ship as quickly as any other engineer in the company. It will also give California engineers two chances to get code shipped and features launched each day.”
Facebook started pushing code once a day back in May 2011. Rossi iterated that Facebook developers are now producing six times the amount of code per week as they were in January 2008.
The new code push schedule is also about keeping Facebook competitive. Rossi mentioned, “I think it crushes what anyone else of our size and impact is doing.”
