Stolen Car Found on eBay After 42 Years

Internet often ends up doing wonders for a lot of people. Not only has it helped people find long-lost friends through the likes of Facebook and Google+, it has also allowed many to find different belongings they had lost. For instance, a man has now been able to regain a car that he had lost 42 years ago by spotting it on eBay!

That does sound unreal but that is true. Robert Russell bought the 1967 Austin Healey for $3,000. Unfortunately, the car was stolen from him in the year 1970. The authorities tried to recover the car but they had never been able to find it.

However, Russell says that he never gave up on his car and kept looking for it. A few days ago, he spotted a car on eBay he believed to be his. To confirm whether or not this was indeed his car, he checked the vehicle identification number online with the original car’s title certificate that he had with him. It was a perfect match!

Upon discovering this, he immediately contacted the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. When being contacted, the department sanctioned detective Carlos Ortega to recover the car, which he was able to. According to the department, “Detective Ortega located the stolen Austin Healey at the dealership listed in the eBay ad and confirmed that the car was the same vehicle reported stolen by Mr. Russell.”

Once the department had sorted vehicle identification issues with the Philadelphia police, Russell was told that he could come and pick his car. The car is back with him at Texas, now valued at $23,000.
