If I say, you can now grow wheatgrasses on a working computer case using processor heat, what you will think about me? That, I have gone insane! No, my friend, I have not. A person named Mike Schropp, using donated computer parts, built a eco-friendly computer with a mini garden of wheatgrass on top of its casing. The computer is working fine, and it grows wheatgrass too.
Mike Schropp’s computer includes one Pentium 4 processor, 2 GB RAM sticks, a Maxtor 120 GB hard drive, a Dell motherboard, an old FPS power supply and a donated computer case. Mike used the Pentium 4 CPU because of its reputation for running hot. Mike added one base and four tubes for the grass and the soil, after working on the hardware and the layout on the case. The heat emitted from the computer keeps the soil warm and help to germinate the seeds.
Mike said, “I can’t exactly recall when the idea came to me, but at some point I started wanting to use the heat from a computer as a way to warm the soil and help with germination. . . . Since the computer was going to be used by my son as something to play with I figured I should put both on there so he can tinker with them and learn as he goes”. Mike plans to do this type experiment with other plants and flowers too.
